April 29, 2010 - Today I will focus on updating the Wiki Journaling space for several more participants in the PSPBL Level IV Certification Learning Process.  I feel very encouraged and proud to be part of an exemplary group of police instructors.  As I continue to work within the Wiki, I am learning more about how the Wiki can be utilized for the PSPBL group and for future police training projects.  I want to continue gaining better technological skills to make certain I can provide the support for this Wiki to those who engage in its use.

Some of the things I would like to learn today are:  how to link podcasts, how to add pictures and how to engage others to use the Wiki for collaboration.

The past week was very busy for me.  I was able to use the "process" of learning to work through some personal legal issues. As has been the case since beginning the PBL journey, I was able to break down what I needed to accomplish by first learning about it and then following through in an action plan.  The legal issues I am referring to involve the alternative dispute resolution processes of mediation and expediton.  In January 2010, an ADR Expeditor became involved in my family matters without a court order or a signed agreement from me.  The Expeditor's involvment has been specifically devastating to my oldest daughter.  Since January, I have learned about the ADR process, Expeditor Orders, Minnesota State Law concerning Mediation, Mediator qualifications, Ethics for Mediation and of key importance the Minnesota Supreme Court's ADR Ethics Board.  In March, I filed a complaint with the Ethics Board, against the Program Director of Northland Mediation who acted as an Expeditor and imposed a very punitive Expeditor Order on my family.  The Order has the potential for egregious harm, and I believe the Expeditor acted outside her legal powers and violated many of the rules set forth in the ADR Ethics code.

On Monday, April 26, I learned the ADR Board had met and will be doing a complete investigation of Expeditor.  During the past few months, my self awareness skills have kept me focused through many emotional tides.  Today, I feel empowerd about what I have learned and the action plan I chose.  There is more work ahead and at least one person who needs my help to work her way through a similar experience.  I know that by continuing to learn, I will become stronger because knowledge is power.

April 22, 2010 - This has been a very busy morning learning about the PB Wiki.  I am encouraged at the simple use of this collaborative tool and feel it will be workable in the Internet Based Lesson Plan.  I would like to hear from more members of the PSPBL group before developing this Wiki any further for collaboration.  As I continue my learning on technology I will share whatever resources that I find useful to help the group communicate.  I also need to become proficient with the Web 2.0 programs for use in my future classrooms.

October11, 2010 - Over the weekend, I worked on updating the IPE wiki for PSPBL.  I am not as knowledgable as I need to be about the Wiki.  Although in creating the Wiki, I discovered many of its tools, I am concerned whether or not the site will be able to handle the volume of data which the PSPBL group may require.  Sometime this week, I will look into the current capabiities of the site and the possibilities of upgrades.  I have really enjoyed creating within the wiki for my final course project in "Harnessing the Power of the Internet" and am pleased to see it being utilized by friends and peers at PSPBL.

This morning, I received a mesage from Richard Ross.  When I originally created the Wiki journaling pages, I had referred to Rick as, "Ross".  My bad, I own it and have hopefully now fixed the bad links and deleted the old non existent Ross's Learning Journal.  It would have been beneficial for me to have attended the PSPBL conference this year so I could put names to faces.  I would really like to get to know everyone who is on the journey for PBL Instructor certification.  I believe it is really important for us to support one another in any way possible.  I am a better face to face communicator than a "techy" communicator.  I know that words on paper can be misinterpreted and will need to keep a watch on my EI and not read into emails and other communications which may seem through my perception lens as rude or demeaning.  When I correspond with others on paper, I will need to make certain that my language does not convey negative connotations.  I am looking forward to utilizing positive energy to promote change in police education.  Onward.......

October 22, 2010

Yesterday I completed my "Employee Development Assessment" for the Lieutenant's review.  The EDA process was developed in 2008 by a small team of officers.  I was a catalyst throughout the development and implementation process for the EDA's.  I am pleased to see that our "journaling" and self awareness tools are still the foundation of the EDA, although, I am not convinced the process has been used to its full potential.  As I completed my EDA, I was reminded of my daily challenges to focus on the very simple tasks which have been assigned to me in my current position.  I acknowledge my disappointment and frustration at my current job assignment which has boxed me into working on "tasks" that do not allow me to develop or utilize my abilities to full potential.  My work each day is something like a potato bagger.  Repetitive, non personal, mundane.......  My challenge is to be the best "potato bagger" I can be and continue looking outside the factory for my future development.

This morning as I was working on this wiki, I learned that when I am in the edit mode, I can double check the journaling links before I save them.  Previously, I had discovered that when I was adding the links to journals, that during the cut and past process sometimes the links would lead to an incorrect journal.  Now that I am checking the links immediately, there shouldn't be any further problems with them.
